4 groups of students are taking part in the Teentech awards ( http://www.teentechevent.com/ ). They have come up with 4 ideas, and are trying to develop them. The project is about taking an idea and trying to develop it, either with a prototype or poster, or model of what it would look like and do. Our 4 groups are looking at 4 things:

1) A pair of shoes that dance along to music doing the movement for you. It is similar to a dance matt except the shoes move.
2) They want to design an app that alerts your phone if your car has been broken in, or have a vibrating key that does the same

The courses are for our current first year students and are comprised of a series of workshops and lectures, a work experience placement, mock interviews and application advice.

We're currently looking for volunteers to come in and speak to the students about their career or any other topic relevant to the sector.

The students at The Manchester College are currently taking part in a Primary Engineer project with local primary schools, promoting engineering in these schools. As part of this project, our students are hoping to achieve Leaders Award. We would therefore like to invite about 6 STEM professionals, preferably working in an engineering field, to take part in an activity at our college with our A-level students. This involves a quick session where you will be interviewed by our students. The activity will last approximately an hour.

What I can offer to schools

See information on expertise - I am mainly interested in offering games Design (Kodu) to students - it's a great way to learn programming logic (without the need for a language and syntax), build on problem solving and team working skills, as well as have great fun with an excellent piece of software that is free.
