What I can offer to schools
A basic lesson in microbiology - create awareness of bacteria on the skin. This can be done by simply allowing students to touch sterile agar plates before and after hand washing. Plates would be incubated overnight and on the following day should show that proper hand washing reduces contaminants on skin. If possible a gram stain can be done to show the students the morphology of some of the bacteria on their hands. this may be of particular interest to primary school students. I can also give presentations to students at higher levels, based on my expertise. This would cover molecular biology topics such as: DNA, cloning, amino acid and protein structure, protein expression and purification, protein detection and identification using gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry.
