What I can offer to schools

With my Education Consultant colleague we can offer exciting packages to engage schoolchildren of any age to enthuse them about sustainability topics and science in general. We also have a number of contacts with local universities, renewable energy businesses and low carbon organisations in order to call on greater expertise, equipment and capacity.

What I can offer to schools

Whilst I support the curricular activities our schools provide, I would welcome the opportunity and further prepare students for life outside of school. In the past I have taken on many work experience students and to start the process, I ask them to write a letter and specify why they are asking for a placement, what they hope to gain and what they can offer the business. I would then invite them for a short interview to prepare them for the role and discuss any concerns thet may have and give them a show round. I have carried out mock interviews, held talks and open Q&A sessions regarding the hospitality industry and assiisted with CV writing. I think my most favourite classroom to date has to be the marketing exercise. Students from a South Derbyshire school were creating products to sell at a shool fair. They had already decided what they were making and I gave a talk regarding how to market their idea and sell it to potential customers, creativity was the exercise and it was fantastic to see how imaginative they were in their groups. Team work was adopted and communication methods were also key.

What I can offer to schools

I have some experience from university in leading outreach sessions with school children, with the aim of encouraging them to consider a career in Science. As a school pupil myself I greatly appreciated such schemes and do not feel that I would be where I am today without them. I thoroughly enjoy my scientific career and wish to share my experiences with others and publicise the role of a healthcare scientist.

I found STEM via the Code Club website, as I'm interested starting a code club at a local school near me. Their site referred me here to register & hopefully get CRB checked. I hope this is correct?

I was a Geography Ambassador for the Royal Geographical Society throughout my undergraduate degree. Since entering employment I now understand how all sciences, maths and technology play an important role in my day to day life through work.
