Olympic energy

I wanted to post a quick blog about what I do for Stemnet in my local area.  I'm a public health nutritionist and once a term I give a session at Brackenbury Primary School in West London on something to do with healthy diets.  A few weeks ago I spoke to the Reception classes (age 5-6) about energy in foods, and we linked it with the energy needs in sports (Olympic theme!).  I took lots of fruit in as props, and we also made a drink in class with the same amount of sugar in it as one of the more famous fizzy beverages - it tasted horrid and the children all agreed.  It was a great session and I think we all really enjoyed it. The great thing is that I get feedback in the playground - parents come up to me to tell me what their children have learned from me and have reported back at home - very satisfying!

Hi Alan, thank you for the blog. Great idea to tie in your STEM Ambassador activities with a current events - makes it even more engaging for the students. Inspiring some budding nutritionists I am sure!
