Imagineering Fair 2012
Hi all
I recently volunteered at the Imagineering Fair, which was based at the RICOH arena in Coventry.
Before the day I wasnt sure what to expect and I was very worried that I knew nothing about engineering and so I would be more confusing than helpful. But all my worries were put to rest when I met the Imagineering team on the day. They talked all the volunteers through all the equipment and information, even though we wasnt helping on everything. This was a great opportunity to revisit my school science days and actually listen and learn this time round!
And I learnt an awful lot ... this was then transferred from myself onto the children that visited the stand.
I volunteered for the 2 full days - which seemed like a good idea at the time, but the closer it got to the event, the more i realised that i was about to give up my whole weekend to talk to children about engineering. This was certainly not the thought i had when i started helping the young children make their own badges, or watch the giant sized Goddiva walk around all the exhibitions.
The fair was an inspiring and very interactive day for people of all ages and i felt it was very rewarding to volunteer. The Imagineering team were really supportive and I managed to meet a number of people from all different backgrounds.
I look forward to doing the same next year!
