First STEM gig, first Robot Challenge
Ok, now fully "recovered" from the shock of having rather a lot of fun on my first ever STEM Ambassador gig.
Went to a school in Lewes to help run a Robot Wars type exercise called "Ant Weight Robot Challenge". Firstly the whole premise quite ingenious. All the fun of making things and racing them coupled with actually having to make them so they work. The kids seemed to enjoy the sessions we ran (kudos to William who led it, Owen and Peter who like me were Ambassadors), and to say we had a wonderfully varied take on "robot" (From R2D2 like robots to the traditional "Robot Wars" style flying wedge) wpould be an understatement. What was great to see was the attitude many took of challenging preconceived ideas of how it should look and work. Does a vehicle HAVE to have 4 wheels... what will 6 give me, how can I use two and not have problesm, this kind of thinking was quite obvious (and vocal).
While the three competitons didn't provide a clear single winner, I certainly cannot say there were any failures!
