Engineers Without Borders Sheffield - Starting as we mean to go on!!

This week, Engineers Without Borders Sheffield carried out their first workshop of the year in style!

As part of the University of Sheffield Societies Outreach Day a team of EWB Sheffield Outreach ran the Water for the World workshop of younsters aged between 8 and 11. The workshop involved the students to learn more about water accessibility and a few suprising facts about how little water there is avalaible and how much water people use in their day to day life!

The main body of the workshop was the children working in small teams with a volunteer to make a sand filter, with groups representing developed and developing countries! It was amazing how engaged the children were. Not only did they learn all about water in developing countries but they also got to practice working as a team, and their numeracy skills when deciding what materials to purchase to build their filter.

Overall the day was a success - below are a couple of quotes from the children I thought I'd share.....

"I was going to be a barrister......but I'm going to be a scientist now!"

"Wow.....it's like magic!"

Hopefully this is just the start of what we hope to continue!
