Countdown until Derbyshire students take part in the Space Olympics
It’s only a week until Derbyshire students fly to Russia to form part of Team GB in the International Space Olympics. They will compete against teams from across the globe including America, China, Australia and several European countries.
To become part of the team, students went through a three month selection process which included:
- Developing an innovative project with a Space Exploration theme
- Completing challenging examinations
- Producing a piece of space-themed creative writing
- An interview process which involved delivering a presentation about why they should be part of the team
On the 10-day visit to Russia, the team will take part in similar tasks to the ones in the selection process as well as deliver a presentation on their project to a panel of leading Space Scientists from around the world. They will also take part in a range of cultural events and activities designed to build friendship between students of different nationalities.
The project is run by Derbyshire County Council CAYA and throughout the project students have been supported by DEBP, STEM Ambassadors, local universities, space experts and many more! They have taken part in a range of visits, training and activities to give them the very best chance of reaching the final. We now wish them all the very best!
