Primary science competition judge
The Wirral Big Science Event is a competition where primary school pupils throughout Wirral devise, carry out and record science investigations that answer questions that interest them. The competition has been running for three years in Oxfordshire, http://www.scienceoxford.com/schools/for-primary-schools/big-science-event.
The children will present their findings as an A2 poster. Each school taking part will judge their own pupils and put their winning team forward to the next stage of the competition.
Judges will visit the schools to see the winning team and will then select 10-12 teams from the school winners to make it through to the grand final and prize giving at the Discovery CLC on Tuesday 10th June 2014.

Young Rewired State
Since 2009 this one event has become a rapidly growing network of developers and designers aged 18 and under. Our primary focus is to continue to find and foster every young person driven to teach themselves how to code, how to program the world around them.
That first weekend is celebrated annually through our Festival of Code, held over a week, (always the first full week of August), in multiple centres culminating in a huge showcase weekend at the Custard Factory in Birmingham.
To help us do this we need adult Mentors
The role of the mentor includes:
Providing expertise in programming, design, presentation skills, agile, ideation, robotics, open data, open government data, graphics
Assisting the centre lead in curating the room
Assessing skills and encouraging collaboration
It is a gentle art of being sensitive to the needs of the YRSers in attendance, some will require encouragement, some will need to be left alone. As the event progresses it becomes about focus and preparation for presentations.
All mentors need to be 18 years old or over.

Ipswich High School are looking for Ambassadors who are willing to go into school to speak to GCSE students, and possibly parents, on any science discipline that they are particularly interested in. In the first instance they are particularly keen to hear from any biologists, biochemists, psychologists or physiologists to speak to students during Biology Week, 14-18 October.
Ambassadors need to be passionate advocates for their sphere of the world of science and be able to communicate their enthusiasm to an audience.
Previous talks have been given by medical professionals, a human guinea pig, the magic of science from a teacher, a pharmacy researcher, a science writer for the Rutherford institute, an exploration of whether there is life on other planets, a talk on badgers by a wildlife policeman to name but a few.
If you would like to be involved or would like further information, please contact us in the first instance: ambassadors@suffolkebp.co.uk .

The next opportunity for Ambassadors and teachers to meet informally has now been arranged.
The aim of this event is to bring Ambassadors and STEM teachers together to give you the opportunity to hear directly from teachers about the sorts of projects they would like support with.
It also gives you an opportunity to discuss your job role and what your industry sector is about so teachers can start to explore how they could make use Ambassadors’ skills and experience.
As well as meeting with teachers, there will be an opportunity to have a short tour of M&H Plastics.
We would like to see as many of you as possible particularly if you have not yet undertaken any Ambassador activities or have not done anything for some time, as this is a great opportunity to find out more and to become actively involved.
To book a place or want to know more, please contact us on: ambassadors@suffolkebp.co.uk // 07768 903392.

We are looking for an outside speaker to come in and talk to the students for a few sessions about any aspect of plastic and polymers. The students will be conducting a CREST award project in class over the first two weeks of July and an outside speaker would be invaluable. As no specific focus is required, the project could be linked to plastics and the environment, or new and innovative polymers for example. The year groups taking part will be 7 and 8, (age 11-13) so the science can be kept simple but hopefully interesting and inspiring!
